An EEPROM is an in-built memory that is non-volatile and can be found in a variety of electronic devices, such as car keys. It stores information that includes the unique authentication codes as well as encryption keys that your vehicle recognises when you use it to unlock the vehicle or start it. These codes are important because they let the car know that you have the right key and are authorized to drive it. If your EEPROM is corrupted, the keys will cease to function. The issue is usually caused by using the incorrect key, or accidentally hitting one of the buttons. You can try to reset it using a special tool, however, this isn't guaranteed to work. It's best to hire an expert who has extensive experience in programming automotive keys. To reset your EEPROM you must remove the Kessy Module from the vehicle. It is located over the accelerator pedal located on the left side of the car. Take off the clip made of plastic that is holding it in place using the help of a screwdriver. Then, you can disconnect the two electrical connectors and remove it from the vehicle. You can then access the EEPROM using a SOIC8 or micro pincers attached to a programmer. Once you have the data you can save it as a file and then write it back to the EEPROM. You can use a program such as PonyProg to read the EEPROM data. Click on Read Device. The EEPROM dump appears as an array of hexadecimal characters. Three hex values are notable that are key_code (key_code), the key_count (key_count) and the V_ARG_ENABLED. It is necessary to change all other Hex values to 00 to “virginize” the chip. Once you do this, you can flash the chip and restore its functionality. Ignition Method This method uses another key to activate the car's system. It isn't applicable to all vehicles however it is possible to reset the key fob if it's not working properly or the battery is dying. It is also possible to reset the key fob if the buttons have been hit hard (a common cause of this is people trying to press down the unlock button a few times). To use this method, turn on the ignition and leave it on. Then make sure that the driver's door is locked of the car using the second key. Then, place the key fob in the lock position and point it at the transmission transmitter located on the front side of the car, just above the mirror. A sensor located in the door's handle could also be used to inform the car that the key is nearby. The sensor sends an indication to the key's internal coil that then responds by sending an indication to the sensor. If the sensor detects this, the car unlocks itself and can turn on the interior lights, if set up to do this. Even the older keyless entry systems come with an older-fashioned backup. If the remote isn't working it is still possible to manually open the driver's door. You can do this by sliding the blade away or, in certain models, by pressing a button in the pocket. This method is especially useful if you've lost your key or if the battery has gone out. Remote Control Method If you've just bought a remote control and it isn't working in your vehicle it could be because the seller didn't have programmed it to work with your vehicle. It could be that the battery terminals are loose (look for this, they might appear a bit loose to the touch and may be soldered in place) It is important to carefully solder them back in place should return your key fob to working order. If you are not comfortable with this kind repair, you should consult an expert auto elec technician. Turn off the ignition, and lock the vehicle from the inside using the second key that's not in the same position (this resets the memory position 1). Enter channel “01” (may be channel “21” in some Audi models). Insert the new keyfob into the driver door and press the unlock button two times in less than 5 seconds.
